FAQ

Q: Is there an age when my dog is just really too old to learn new manners and life skills?

A: Honestly no, I have worked with dogs in their teens that were still able to make some amazing behavior changes.

Q: What makes you different from other trainers?

A: I†do not only address the issue at hand, I†address the balance in your home between your dog and you as a pack leader as well as teaching basic obedience.

Q: Do I have to be mean to my dog in order to be a pack leader in our home?†

A: NO never, a true pack leader is consistent, patient, and kind. You want to be a benevolent leader, not a fear mongering dictator.

Q: We can’t invite†anyone†into our home because our dogs†jumps all over them or†barks in confined the entire time they are here, can you help us?

A: This is to date probably the most common problem I hear about besides dogs pulling on the leash, YES I can help.

Q: Are there cases that you do not accept ?

A: YES, I will not accept a case where the owner is not fully committed to the dog’s training.

Q: My dog has recently attacked and injured someone and we are now very afraid he will do it again, is it true that once a biter always a biter?

A: In many ways, yes, that is the case. We can however put precise management tools†in place to keep it from happening again.

Q: Our dog goes crazy every time he sees another dog. We are not sure if he wants to play or if he wants to hurt the other dog, can you help us?

A: Yes with my background in working with shelter dogs I see so many dogs who are dog dog aggressive and also where the arousal level of play becomes so much that it leads the dogs into a fight. These dogs give off very clear body language signs that the game of play is going to turn into a fight very soon. It is these signs that help us put out the fire before it begins to blaze.

Q: I am going to be evicted from my apartment because my dog will not stop barking when I am at work, I can’t afford to take her to daycare, can you fix this?

A:Yes I feel I can. It is as simple as teaching the dog to speak, then teaching him what the word “no” means, then we can clearly communicate what we want from the dog “no speak”.

Q: How much are your fees?

A:The fee differs on how you would like to make payment. There is an hourly rate which the service is not guaranteed meaning if you say that you want your dog to down and stay for a half hour, I cannot guarantee that at the end of that one hour session he will be able to perform the request. The other type of payment is a one time fee that guarantees the service for the life of the dog, what this means is say we accomplish our goals that we have set forth and you are happy with the training of your six month old puppy. Then at age 2 the dog reaches sexual maturity and is now trying to eat the neighbor. So you would call me back up and I would work on the dog for no additional charge to you.

Q: Do you provide a contract?

A:Yes I provide a detailed contract that is customized to the individual client.

Sniff&Sit has experience dealing with a wide array of dog breeds, large or small.
